Note:
This is going to be a little long, as I’ve neglected to do these little columns for a while. Also, I’ve discovered how to filter by publisher on Amazon.com, and have been picking through the non-imprint publishers (like HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster) for SF/F books. This results in finds like Kelley Armstrong’s The Summoning and a lot of SF/F Young Adult books (which are not being filed in SF/F).
And also: my gods, HarperCollins, you pump books through whatever eBook machine you have going like mad, mad people.

Ah, Inferno, there’s a book that takes me back. Sometimes I wonder how I wasn’t permanently warped by reading Niven/Pournelle right-wing political allegory at such an impressionable age. (Or maybe I did get warped, and just sprang back in the other direction.)
(Speaking of which: the problem with the Azula / Sarah Palin comparison is that Azula’s cool. Devious — could give Palin some pointers there, too — and sociopathic — maybe no pointers — but cool.)
I read Inferno a while back, too. I can’t remember very much of it. I just remember wanting to throw the book across the room but that may have just been young spirits.
(True—Azula does actually have charisma. And she is a people person. (Though not in the way most people think a people person should be. And then again….) Sarah Palin has… reportedly… hot babe looks. Back at some point, supposedly.)
