This damn day. The oncall. The depression. I have to admit that, while I’m competent during oncall, it really damages my sanity and health if I don’t spend the next day resting.
Work: Night oncall. Things happened because of other teams. What are ya gonna do except help them to keep customers from getting adversely impacted? Even at 6am after a night of insomnia (I don’t take any of my calming or sleeping pills while I’m oncall; it’s like getting drunk, a bad bad horrible idea).
I ended up taking a half-day, because I’m coming down with something that starts in your chest and does something, although I’m already feeling a little bit better (maybe the chicken soup did something?).
Nightmares: Weird dreams. But I’ll remember not to ever eat Doritos ever again (needing to go DF due to intolerance is depressing in a lotta ways). Instead, I will probably make Durritas from The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook, which are lower in fat anyways.
Food: I cooked up a bunch of rice noodles for later use in various dishes, like this impromptu soup. You can actually do this without much trouble, as shown in Quick & Easy Thai:
- Bring water to boil in a large pot. I suggest 8 cups.
- Dump package of rice noodles into the pot at the same time that you remove it from heat.
- Let sit 10 minutes. (If you’re going to use the noodles in a stir-fry, you only need 5 minutes.)
- Save a bunch for later use, eat some now (about 1/4) tossed with any kind of sauce you like.
Books: Finished off Lust Lizard, and started on Beginning Operations, the first omnibus of Sector General novels.
Link of the Day: Bad Movie Beatdown of The Happening is awesome. I also recommend Cleolinda’s Movies in 15 Minutes breakdown of same.
